Choubepur bloodbath: MP CM speaks with Yogi
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted over phone with his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath on Thursday subsequent to the arrest – in Ujjain – of gangster Vikas Dubey who is prime accused in Kanpur District’s Choubepur encounter that resulted in the martyrdom of eight police personnel.
While furnishing details regarding the vital law-enforcement action, Mr Chouhan informed the other senior politician that the criminal would be handed over to that state’s police, it was officially learnt.
Though UNI received inputs regarding a couple of Dubey’s accomplices being taken into custody, this could not be immediately confirmed.
“We were on high alert right from the juncture the dastardly Choubepur incident was perpetrated. Irrespective of whether a criminal is notorious or petty, such persons cannot escape my officers’ clutches! Dubey had crossed every conceivable boundary of cruelty. Further information is awaited regarding this morning’s police action within Ujjain’s Mahakal Chowki limits,” Home Minister Narottam Mishra averred during an interaction with the press in the state capital.
A senior functionary of the state police said that the history-sheeter was caught in the vicinity of the ancient temple town’s world-renowned Mahakaleshwar shrine when he was heading to ‘pay his respects’ to the presiding deity.
While being forced into a police vehicle, the unrepentant gangster turned to the crowd of onlookers and shouted in Hindi, “Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur waala (I am Vikas Dubey, the one from Kanpur!)”
A related video went viral in social media.
The transgressor is under interrogation by the Superintendent of Police himself.
A reward of Rs 5 lakh had been announced for Dubey’s arrest. Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force sources said that a team has already left for Ujjain.
It is yet unclear as to how and when the offender reached that town. Two days back one of his relatives was taken into custody by Uttar Pradesh Police in Shahdol District.
