New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the country was saddened by the insult to the national flag during the farmers protest on January 26.
“The country was saddened by the insult to the Tricolor on the 26th of January in Delhi. We have to infuse times to come with new hope and novelty. Last year, we displayed exemplary patience and courage. This year too, we have to work hard to attain our resolves. We have to take our country forward at a faster pace,” the Prime Minister said in his year’s first Mann Ki Baat.
The protest by tens of thousands of farmers against the recently enacted agricultural reform laws had turned violent on the Republic Day and led to national insult as a “religious flag” was planted by a group of miscreants from the ramparts of historic Red Fort.
On Saturday, Mr Modi informed in an all-party meeting that the government’s offer to farmers “still stands” and that he is just “a phone call away” for any discussion. “Mr Modi, at the end of the meeting, told political parties that the government stand made during the last meeting with the farm leaders still holds,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said.
