Highest ever: India reports nearly 23k cases in single day

New Delhi: India on Saturday reported a record breaking single day rise of 22771 fresh novel coronavirus cases, taking the overall tally to 6,48,315.

According to the Health Ministry update this morning, the peninsula reported 442 deaths in the last 24 hours , taking the pandemic death count to 18655.

Although cases are rising, but, there is also an improvement in the recovery rate of the covid patients as close to 4 lakh people have been cured and discharged so far, with the number presently standing at 3,94,227.

The difference between number of the recoveries as compared to the current active cases under medical supervision has again increased. Active cases across the country are at present 235433, that are 158794 less than that of the recoveries, as per the government data.

Recovery rate is around 60 per cent at present, based on government data.

As per the Indian Council for Medical Research , samples tested for the virus across the country till Friday were 95,40,132.
