Kathmandu: Nepal on Thursday banned the broadcast of Indian news channels saying that some channels ran defamatory ‘shows’ on the Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli along with the Chinese envoy, local media reported.
“The Multi-System Operators (MSO) have decided to stop the broadcast of Indian news channels in Nepal”, Himalayan times said in a report.
Nepal Communist party spokesperson and former deputy prime minister NK Shrestha Prakash, in a tweet, lashed out at the Indian media channels saying that the baseless propaganda by the Indian media against Nepal government and our Prime Minister has crossed all limits. “This is getting too much. Stop with the nonsense”, he said.
“Nepal is united as far as matters related to sovereignty and geographical integrity are concerned. What we do here is our concern. Divide and rule policies tried by foreign elements will not work here”, he further said in his tweet.
Notably, according to local media, Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi on Thursday met with Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal continuing her marathon meetings with the ruling party leaders since the party has plunged into a fresh round of crisis.
Nepal-India relations ahve turned sour since the ruling party under PM Oli passed a bill that endorses a new political map, which includes Indian territories of Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura.
