Punjab horror: Head Priest of Ram Tirath temple among two held in rape case

Amritsar Two priests of the historic Ram Tirath temple were arrested by Amritsar Police on Monday for allegedly holding hostage and raping two women in the temple premises.

Confirming the arrest, District police chief Vikramjit Duggal said they arrested Girdhari Nath, head of the Guru Gian Nath Ashram Valmiki Tirath, along with one of his accomplice Varinder Nath in a rape case registered against Ashram Head and his three disciples Varinder Nath, Nachhatar Nath and Suraj Nath under Sections 376, 346,379, 509/ 34 of IPC.

Attari Police Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurpratap Singh Sahota said that acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), a police team conducted a raid and arrested Girdhari and Varinder and the police team recovered the two women from the room of the temple, where they were held captive. Both the women were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

He said a complaint in this regard was filed by member of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Tarsem Singh Sialka at the Lopoke police station, alleging that the accused had kept two women hostage at the temple and were raping them.
