SC rejects bail plea of nCoV +ve convict in 1984 anti-Sikh riots caseNew Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea for interim bail of convict and former MLA Mahender Yadav serving three years jail term in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

The former MLA had filed the bail application on basis of medical grounds which was quashed by vacation bench of Indira Banerjee and B R Gavai.

Senior Advocate R Basant, appearing for the petitioner, contended before the court that his client was coronavirus positive and in Intensive Care Unit, where none of his relatives could meet him. He is in custody even in ICU and two policemen are deployed outside his room.

Advocate Basant said the prison is housing many pandemic cases and one of the patients have died too. The counsel said that his client is above 70 years of age and has sugar and kidney-related problems, so he should be granted bail post which his relatives can take of him.

The bench said there was no ground in the petition for granting the convict bail and said nobody is allowed in ICU whether the person is in custody or on bail.
