Trump won’t visit Capitol to pay respects to Rep. John Lewis
Washington: President Donald Trump on Monday said that he will not be visiting the U.S. Capitol Rotunda to pay his respects to Rep. John Lewis.
Trump was asked by reporters if he would be visiting the Capitol building, where Lewis is lying in state.
“No, I won’t be going. No,” Trump said.
The body of civil rights icon, Democratic Congressman John Lewis, will lie in state this week in the US Capitol rotunda,, BBC reported.
Mr Lewis is the the first African-American lawmaker to receive one of the country’s highest honours.
Lewis, the “Conscience of Congress”, died of pancreatic cancer aged 80 on 17 July.
